CHAPTER EIGHT

“Holy shit,” I gasped out, holding onto the dashboard in terror.

After my nap, we’d poofed from the cottage to a compound an hour away from the set where the game was to be played. I’d been outfitted with concealed weapons, another blood exchange with my mother and had the makeup Shiva had given me. From the compound it was decided we would drive. They would drop me off a half mile away and I would walk the rest of the way in.

Lilith was behind the wheel. I wasn’t sure who thought that was a good idea. Candy Vargo was a crap driver. My mother made her look like a champion of safety on the road.

The car was some kind of SUV. It had three rows of seats and bullet proof glass. Dagon and Abaddon sat in the back. Lilith and I were in front. Shiva had gone to LA to back up Cher, Ophelia and Fifi in the protection of Sean. Before she’d left, I’d removed the spell and given her Slash Gordon’s digits. She was thrilled and had informed everyone of our newly minted and somewhat hostile best friend status.

I didn’t correct her. It wasn’t worth it. If she was happy, she’d protect my brother better. That was all I cared about.

Lilith was driving erratically and talking to me. Problem was, she looked right at me when she spoke and not at the road. My stomach was in my mouth. I figured if we crashed, we’d come out of it alive. However, showing up in Fake Vegas in pieces was a bad plan.

“Umm… do all Immortals drive like this?” I choked out as she narrowly missed clipping a truck.

“Like what?” Lilith asked, confused.

“Like batshit crazy?” I clarified.

Her laugh reminded me of tinkling bells. Despite the fact I was sure I was going to end up decapitated in a wreck, I laughed along with her. It was impossible not to catch her joy.

“I’d suggest we pull over,” Abaddon said, feeling my impending freak out and backing me up.

Point for the Demon I was dating.

“Why?” Lilith asked as she almost slammed into the divider in the median due to the fact that she had fully turned around to address Abaddon.

“Because you’re a horrible driver,” I yelled as she veered back onto the highway and crossed all three lanes in one almost disastrous move.

“Oh my,” Lilith said, flipping off an irate driver who was fully within their rights to beep at us. “I don’t drive much!” She punctuated her statement with another giggle.

Thankfully, she pulled over onto the shoulder.

“Better?” she asked with a twinkle in her eye.

“Much,” I said, rolling down the window to get some fresh air so I didn’t puke from the residual terror coursing through me from her death-defying driving. “Maybe, I should drive.”

One would think people older than time would be good behind the wheel of a vehicle. One would be wrong. Very wrong. My guess was that Abaddon could drive since he spent a lot of time on this plane, but I could be mistaken.
